Is DVD-RW good for Window file backup?

I used DVD-RW to back up Window files. It failed three times because of verification. DVD drive is made by Panasonic. Nero is used with uncompressed option on.

What do you do about test drives when selling your car on Craig’s List? ?

I am a single woman and am selling my car on Craig’s List. What do you do about someone taking a test drive? I don’t want to just hop in the car with anyone and go with them–but at the same time I don’t want to just hand over my keys whether they give me collateral or not! How do I handle? Thanks.
My mom suggested taking their car keys for their car while they test drive mine. Don’t have male friends/relatives readily available in my area.

Why does my laptop not recognize my external hard-drive when i turn it on? It is always plugged in?

My laptop is a gateway with XP Pro, The external harddrive is a Seagate. It is always hooked up to the laptop and all the drivers are installed but I always have to turn it off and then back on and then the laptop finds it without a problem. I dont have that problems with any other applications.

Why are Seattle drivers the slowest on the continent?

Why do drivers in Seattle and Washington State often travel below the speed limit, holding up everyone behind them?

Why do Seattleites constantly drive in the far-left lane on the freeway when the lanes on the right are empty, often under the speed limit? Have they not ever heard of “keep right except to pass”?

Why do Seattle drivers merge onto the highway like snails, causing all moving cars to slow? Moreover, why when merging, do they not continue to the end of the merge lane and rather try to merge at the first possible opportunity, causing a log-jam? Why is it called “lane jumping” when such drivers (from out-of-state) rightfully continue to the end of the merging lane to the proper place to merge? Why were Seattle cops ticketing this?

Why are there State Patrols harassing people everywhere when everyone is driving so slowly anyway?

Does any bright mind think that there might be some correlation between hideous Seattle traffic and slow, incompetent driving?

Which Linux distro do you recommend?

I’m trying to choose a Linux distro to install on an ancient pc i dug out of my closet. It originally ran Windows 98 (first edition)

I want it to be able to use a wireless adapter (it doesn’t matter what kind) so that it can connect to my router and surf the internet.

The specs of the pc are as follows:
Intel Pentium 2 processor,
64 Mb Ram,
6 gig hard drive,
16 Mb Video Card.

It also has:
CD/DVD drive
Floppy drive (no longer working)
ZIP drive
56k dial-up modem
2 usb 1.0 ports
there are no ethernet ports
(i think it has a few open PC slots)

(The only Linux distro i have used so far on it is Puppy Linux, if Puppy Linux is able to connect to the internet by use of a wireless adapter please tell me how to do so)

Also any tips on how to install the wireless adapter will help.
adding to information above…
i’ve tried installing xubuntu in normal and safe graphic mode…for some reason it freezes after the loading screen (screen with mouse and loading bar) it goes to a black screen with a blinking cursor at the top left corner of the screen
however,
when i try to install xubuntu with the alternate cd it freezes during the software install… the most i have gotten to was 85% complete
I installed Vector Linux, and it seems to be working fine. Even better than Puppy Linux… it looks nicer than Puppy…. also after looking at a few forums i think i found the answer to my networking problems….thank you all for answering. (You might expect another question about wireless networking in Vector Linux and how to install a wireless network adapter with Windows drivers………..)

Can a person be given a citation by the police solely on information provided by another driver?

A driver took my license number and reported to the police that I “nearly” ran them off the road. I have no knowledge of this incident but the officer told me I could be given a citation or prosecuted!! This is in Pennsylvania.

How do I switch harddrives from active to inactive?

I tried recovering my computer but it wouldn’t for some reason. Then I somehow switched my recovery drive (which was active) to inactive & my 200GB main drive (which was inactive) to active. I think I messed that up. I found a windows xp disc that would allow me to bypass the non working recovery part and install a whole new operating system but now I can’t. I’m pretty sure when I switched my recovery drive to inactive and my main drive to active, that messed it all up. Can someone please tell me how to switch them back to the way they were?

can anyone tell me what is a good type of camcorder to purchase?

hi am looking to buy a camcorder for personal use - nothing too fancy - but would like to be able to use computer editing and don’t have a firewire port or a computer fast enough to handle one. i need to know what would be the best technology to use that would be able to transfer video to a computer as avi or mpeg (or whatever) via usb.
have looked at a few “hard drive” type models but they are a bit out of our price range, and the “dvd” models with expandable memory seem reminiscent of our previous minidv model which touted expandable memory but it ended up being only for still images
and can anyone recommend a cheaper model that has this feature?
AND can anyone state, from personal experience, how the digital transfer works?
thanks heaps everyone - i know this is a complicated question!!! cheers
john - what do you mean they’re only good for concerts?
sorry - josh!
