Western Digital Raptor Serial ATA 1.5 vs SATA 3.0?
February 27th, 2009 Posted by: admin
Ok my question has nothing to do with the performance of the Raptor, RAID, or Hard Drive RPM. On compatability with motherboards I’m wondering how the SATA 1.5 and SATA 3.0 work. Do the board slots for SATA1.5 and SATA 3.0 look the same and the hard drive has a different transfer rate or are there different slots with different rates?
I’m building a high-end gaming machine with the WD 150gig Raptors in a RAID config, and a variable transfer rate 1Terra drive for a massive archive I run off the computer. I need the Raptors because I run a series of games and developement programs that rely on faster retrieval times from the hard drives more than they do the size of the RAM.
Windows Vista 64 bit
3.0ghz Core Duo Processor
4GB Ram (2×2g set)
1300GB HD space (WD Raptor 150GB-10000rpmx2, WD Caviar 1TB-5200-7200RPMx1)
BFG Nvidia 8800GTX
