Software Piracy, How can it be so easy ?
December 11th, 2009 Posted by: admin
I am prmarily a Linux user, however out of pure curiosity I went to one of the torrent sites and downloaded what was claimed to be a fully working Windows Vista Home Premium.
Not expecting it to work, I attempted to install it on to a knackered hard drive I have out of pure curiosity.
It works, passes genuine test, downloads all updates etc .
How can this be ?
I have since formatted the drive that I installed it to,as I have a genuine copy of Vista, dual booting with Ubuntu which I use 90% of the time.
How can it be so easy ?
PS. I do not want endless emails as to where this illegal copy of Vista can be found on the net, as details will not be forthcoming as I DO NOT SUPPORT PIRACY, and this was merely an excersise !

its easy since all you have to do is copy the information from one disc to 1000 others… and since your saying it work 100% at a time including downloading updates that is the hacker’s fault.. they make it so that the software need not authenticate itself with windows before it can get updates from it

Yes, it the sad fact. The bad guys keep cracking and people keep using those crap. Of course, you were lucky to come up a good torrent without viruses and all. 90% of the time, these torrents and p2p files have got viruses and other malware. People are just not ready to believe that free software can be good. They should at least try the wonderful and free software like Ubuntu (I use it too!), OpenOffice, Firefox, Opera, Gimp, Pidgin, AVG, Avast!, Comodo Pro Firewall etc.

it is easy because hackers dont care,
and they will put the files out there for anyone to get them; if a user is desperate enough to risk getting viruses then …

Good Day….I do not support piracy either but here in our country, if piracy do not proliferate very few people will learn how to use the computer….setting up a computer here in our country is not as expensive compare to US or other country….Software cost a lot more than the Hardware…..if you are going to follow the copyright law …very few will be interested in this field ….what we follow here is the right to copy…….There’s a lot of software available here that is not to your imagination possible…..

That’s weird, it passed the genuine test? Pirated Windows OSes almost never pass the genuine test. It sounds like an unusually good rip of a Vista CD. I’m have no idea how people get away with sharing these files on torrent sites. My friend uses the Sonic ISP, and he ranked # 2 in highest amount of bandwidth used. Apparently, he’s downloaded almost 3 terabytes of pirated software. I’m unsure of how he hasn’t gotten caught yet.
A lot of the time, they will put a ***** in the iso file so it will be detected as genuine. But the genuine windows detection isn’t that great in the first place, people have passed it with ubuntu and wine
