What is the best free system hardware problem reporter program I can download?

My computer is crashing on me. It happen infrequently but it happens. I am running XP Home Service Pack 3. Motherboard:ASUS A7V400-MX, DDR-1.5 GB RAM, AMD Sempron 2500+ 1.74 40 GB IDE, Hard Drive, Panasonic DVD-RW. I don’t know what this is but I need to get to the bottom of it…..

Hard drive and CD burner IDE?

I had asked a question about Nero concerning a buffer underrun I kept getting and this was one of the answers given:
No Comments“If your CD burner and your hard drive are on the same IDE channel, this will happen. IDE can only transfer data in one direction at a time to one device at a time.”
Is there a way I can correct this so the underrun doesn’t occur?
