Change IDE to SATA on already installed xp pro?

In my computer i only have 1 hard disk, 1 DVD-RW, and no floppy drives. The hard disk is hooked into the motherboard by a SATA cable and not and IDE. When i tried to install XP Pro it at first didn’t detect my hard disk. I went into BIOS and changed the drive type to IDE from SATA in order for it to show up in installation screen of XP Pro. XP runs fine like it is setup, but i want the drive type to say SATA in the BIOS instead of IDE. Is there anyway to do this?

Missing 2nd Hard Drive in Vista?

Got a 2nd computer today, nothing big as I will only be using it for more file storage (Acer MT300a) AMD 64/3600, gig of ram, 250 gig hd. Windows Vista Home Prem.
Here’s the problem:
System comes with a 250 Gb Hard Drive (SATA), 2 Partitions, and a DVD burner (IDE). system runs well boots fine. I wanted to move a drive from my first system (XP) to this one as a second drive on the IDE chain. The drive works fine on XP system 200Gig Maxtor and has about 190 Gig of data on it, Formated NTFS, Basic Volume. When I add it to the New Vista system, It shows up in the BIOS as well as in the Divice Manager, and under Disk Management. But it shows up as an EISA Configuration drive, normaly saved for system restore partitions. It shows Healthy and Online But will not allow for a drive letter. I have tried it as Master/Slave/ and Stand alone (Removing the DVD). Pull it back out, put it in the XP system, shows up with all data intact.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Built new PC. Won’t boot. Help?

Specs- Asus p5gd2 vm- mobo
pent 4 dual core 2.5ghz.
533 ddr2 dimm ram 2gb
500w power supply

120gb hard drive pulled from an older computer.
dvd rom drive also pulled.

I plugged everything in and it all powers up but my monitor doesn’t show anything. There are no beeps from the mobo. I tried the battery trick, didn’t work. I tried taking it all apart and reinstalling everything, didn’t work. I followed directions to the t building this thing. I spent a lot of time researching every little detail.

But the damned thing doesn’t boot into bios or anything. I also tried unplugging the hd and cd rom just to get into bios. Didn’t work.

I have no idea what to do. All the parts I bought are brand new. I also tried installing a graphics card and using that to display, but didn’t work.

I don’t know how to set up the motherboard speakers for the beep sounds. there’s no plug for that.

My Aim is Aymach. I’m usually off and on all day. If anyone can help me get this thing going, it would be much appreciated. I’d pay for the help if I had money. But I spent it all on this computer! haha. Ugh: (

What is wrong with my computer? Whats causing this? (Hardware problems)?

Ok, here are the problems.

The most obvious one is the fact that it turns on, then after loading stuff from the bios, it resets. I tried to load from the windows CD, but I can’t access it.

Here is a couple things I think it could be, either hard drive failure, or PSU. I installed a 120gig hard drive. It currently had an 80 gig as main, now it also has a 120 gig slave drive.

Ive been having problems for a little while. When I first got the computer 4 years ago, about a week or 2 after, I noticed an error that said “hard drive failure imminent.” Even though it was brand new, and recently I figured out it was a Maxtor.

Certain problems ive had in the past are stuff like, losing administrative controls, things messing up and going really slow, internet downloading at 38kb instead of 180kb.

Now, could it be that the PSU is dead and shuts down the same spot everytime it starts? Or, could the main drive be fried?

Oh, and right as this all happened, I got a stop error…
I dont remember the exact numbers, so I cant look them up. But, it had something to do with a Kernal problem. I looked that up, and it had a couple different things with Kernel Stops. One being a hardware failure, among driver errors and physical memory problem. Should I buy a new hard drive or is something else wrong?
Well…I don’t want to throw out a computer. I have enough to buy a hard drive. But, not enough to buy a brand new one. And ones like HP and Compaq are cheap computers that I will not waste my money on. So, I want to fix this one.

If I convert an IDE drive to SATA, will it transfer like a SATA drive?

If not, then how do I do this? 2 ide slaves with a SATA master…how would that work? Do I make the IDE slaves? Or what? The SATA doesnt have a master jumper setup…does the bios just recognize the SATA as master?
So I just set the IDE drives like they are now…cause I have this computer im disassembling. So I just have a master with slave present, with a slave…and the SATA will run as master over IDE?
