why do computers have their cd/dvd doors? why not like cars?

why do on laptops and desktops the cd/dvd drive has to pop out? why can’t they make them like cars where it pulls the cd in? (stick it half way into the dash and then automatically it gets pulled in)

Need help playing DVD’s on my PC?

Hi! I’ve recently just bought a USB External CD/DVD drive for my netbook because it doesn’t have an internal one. The first time I tried to put a DVD on however it says “Windows Media Player cannot play this disk because you do not have a decoder” - or something like that. So my question is…what is a decoder and how do I buy one for cheap/download one for free.

Thank in advance…

CD-Rom Drive Ate my CD?

I was attempting to install a needed program for my distance education class last night. I inserted the install CD in the drive & closed it. All of a sudden, I heard a “weird” sound coming from the drive & attempted to open the drive. When I did, the install CD was partially stuck in the drive (going into the drive itself). I went to remove it & the door closed on the drive b/4 I could get it out.

When I got the door opened again, the CD was gone & the tray was empty. The CD has been “eaten” by the drive, and my CD drive is no longer operational as it says I have no free space available. I have 2 questions:

1. Is it possible to retrieve the “eaten” CD from the drive?
2. If it is possible & the CD is damaged, are there any techniques to restore it?

When I replace the CD drive, I intend to add another CD/DVD combo drive as I have an expansion bay on the tower. Just in case anything like this happens again.

TIA for any advice I can get …

New hard drive installed but with missing cd drive and dvd-r drive?

I just installed a new hard drive and it might be just a case of which EIDE wires go where(or not..idk) and I opened up My Computer folder and neither my cd-rom drive or dvd-r drive show up. I checked my Add Hardware Wizard & Admin Man. folder and they’re “missing”. Both hard drives’ jumpers are in locations one over two. Has this happened to anyone else? I’ve never seen it happen to me so I’m at a loss for words but I know it’s fixable. I just don’t know how.

Will the display on a dvd player show the track numbers if I play a music cd in it?

I use my dvd player to play music cd’s as well. My old player doesn’t have a display on it, and I’m considering getting a new one with a display if that display will show the track numbers if I’m playing a music cd in it.

My CD/DVD drive stopped working, what do I do?

I have an hp pavilion 783c. I’ve recently upgraded my graphics card and upgraded to 2 Gigs of RAM. After I installed my RAM, the cd/dvd drives stopped working. Was wondering if this could be the power supply?

The my computer icons were arranged so beautifully?

but then I accidently pressed shift c or d enter, and they rearranged! Not in their beautiful groupings, such as the hard drives, the cd and dvd players, and the a drive were all together; the folders were together (mine, other’s, shared); and then there was something else, but I need help geting it back to its original state! Any ideas?
