CD-ROM interfering with modem?

Heres one for ya’ll, Im using a dell dimension 4300; 512mb; PC Tel v.90 platinum; CD-RW GCE-8160b. So, all was fine and than, out of nowhere AOL dialer began disconnecting, frequently. In an atempt to narrow down the cause I started the dialer whith no other programs running. To make a long story short I found that what was causing ther disconnect was ripping cds with media player. I than discovered that it wasnt a software problem, because any time the cd-rom drive spins up, a minute later Im dissconected. I turned the modem volume on and low and behold, you can hear the thing making funny sounds (as in diffenent than it should be making, the sound it makes is pretty funny on its own) It even dialed the wrong number trying to reconect with cd-rom spining. I put it in a difenent slot, didn’t help; there are apparently no conflicts acording to device manager. Like I said, it went from no problems to causing a disconnect, and I didnt change anything with my system. Help please thanks
It may be that my modem is bad, But the only time I have any trouble at all with it, is when a cd-rom OR DVD spins up (seperate drives). (Just discoered that it has the same problem when the other drive spins up.)

how much would it cost me to replace my cd/dvd rom/rw drive on dell e1705?

i dropped it and now it wont write cd/dvds, it still plays cd/dvds but it doesn’t write anymore and the drive won’t just pop all the way out anymore when you hit that little button, it pops out a little bit but you have to pull it out manually from there anyways i thinking about giving it to my brother because he has no computer because i’m gonna upgrade and i wanna get it fixed for him because everything else works fine it just that drive.

CD-RW Drive not reading blank CD-R’s?

I have a CD-RW drive in my computer, and it’s worked fine for a long time, but now out of nowhere it just won’t read blank discs.

It reads normal discs just fine, but not blank ones…
It won’t even recognise that there is a disc in the drive. I know it’s blank and there’s nothing on it for my PC to read, but it should at least know that there is a blank CD in there, right?

When I try to access the drive with a blank disc in it, it says the drive is inaccessible.

When I right click on the cd drive and go to properties, it says the capacity is 0 bytes (which means it’s not recognising the storage space of the disc)

But it reads other cd’s fine! I know it’s not the drive, because I installed ANOTHER CD-RW drive, and it does the same thing.

Any computer problems that could be causing this?
Should I try repairing my Windows installation?

I’m using Windows XP SP3, btw.
I didn’t touch the lens, I haven’t done anything unusual to it at all…

It just stopped working. Which leads me to believe the drivers are corrupted or something.. I’ll try repairing my installation…. Thanks

CD burning issue. Please Help?

I can’t figure out why my computer is having a hard time trying to burn on a CD-R but has no problems burning on a CD-RW.

I put in a CD-R and get it set up to burn, I get the message stating that there is ***** in the drive but when putting a CD-RW into the drive it reads fine, why?

Your thoughts? Thanks.
