hard drive partitioning?

i bought a harddrive, then i partioned it, it was okay as i installed windows xp in the 8GB partion, i formatted the rest in the 80GB hard drive. when i restarted the pc, it would only go up to the Windows logo screen then restarts the pc again. i tried to repair windows but when i got to the part where i had to choose the partition in which to install windows xp, it gave one partion with half the size of the hard drive, i seriously dont know why.

i installed partion magic 8, it showed me the remaining part of the hard drive was the extended partion. i want to get the space, what do i do? how do i reduce the size of the Extended partition?

If you are using vista and want to downgrade to XP to you have to back up your harddrive?

I have Vista and a software on my computer won’t work on it, I need this software to work, so I’ll just have to downgrade to XP. Do I have to back-up my hard drive or will everything on my computer still be there? Because my hard drive is over 300GB and it will take a while to back it up, lol like a week. btw, i have a desktop.

Core=256 Mb’s

why does my hard drive show low disk space one minute and 41gb free the next?

for example i cleaned out all files i thought would take up space and it still shows low space i even erased system restore then i shut it down for the night and when i restarted it it show 41gb free space wich is about what it should be but a little while longer it shows 4.64 mb left on hard drive why is that the harddrive is 55 gb any help would be appreciated thank u

Downgrading from Vista? Wipe the drive? Sata Recognized?

Would it work for me just to choose the option when installing xp to “delete the partition”? Would It allow me to get to that point or must I wipe the drive first?

Any software tools to wipe the drive before placing the disk in? Is this a good thing?

Also I’ve been told that my harddrive my not be recognizable or the drivers for the hard drive or Sata may not be rocognized. Is this true?

i need the backup files and the evox.ini and the default.xbe i used the ones i FTP’d frum my xbox and i made an iso and tried to boot with it but it still doent work can anyone help me and send me the files??

what’s the difference between RAM and a flash drive?

I know what they both are. I know that RAM goes inside the computer and is used to store data for fast access, and a flash drive plugs into a usb and is used to transfer data from computers.

But what is the physical difference between their makeup? aren’t they both silicon microchips? neither have any moving parts. if you loaded something into your RAM and unplugged the pc and took the RAM out and put it into another computer could you read what was on it last?
can i use a flashdrive as RAM?
isn’t it still faster to read off a flash drive on a USB2 connection than reading from a harddrive?
in XP, isn’t there a pagefile or virtual RAM which is designated space on the harddrive used for RAM purposes? so can you make it read the flash drive instead for the pagefile?

Sony Vaio Laptop - (S)VGN-S150?

There’s a noise coming from the hard drive of my laptop, like a buzzing noise(A bit scratchy). And I cannot boot anymore.

Now here are the details.
1.Is this really coming from the hard drive.
2.The air coming out of the fans is REALLY weak, this might be another cause.
3.When I tilt it forward, it makes this loud screeching noise.
4.Is the hard drive SATA PATA or IDE.

IF the hard drive is the problem, I’m going to have a hard time finding parts since the model was released 2004.

Now If any of you know a place where I can purchase a new harddrive that will work with model VGN-S150, I’d really appreciate it :P
Btw, I’m from PH(Philippines). Shipping costs won’t be a problem as long as I get the real deal.
