Reformatting drive C?

my laptop’s drive C is 10 gigabytes and my drive D is 30 gigabytes. I would like to reformat my Hard Disk to its original state of 40 gigabytes that means deleting the Drive D? How can I reformat Drive C when the operating system is in this Drive? please help me because i cannot install some programs in drive C.

hard drive swap, your thoughts and pointers?

recently my computer took a dump on me. the hard drive is in working condition (barely) but the rest of it went south, namely the keyboard, disk drive, and for the final nail in the coffin; the screen.
1 Commenti managed to disect my laptop and remove the hard drive, and my brother has a similar laptop that will probably accept my hard drive. so i want to open up his laptop, remove its hard drive and put mine in, then go online and back up all my stuff on carbonite.
this will only be temporary and as soon as i am done i will put his hard drive back. but he is afraid that the problems with my hard drive will transfer over to his computer, but as far as i can tell that won’t happen at all.
can someone lend some advice to comfort my brother and convince him to let me swap hard drives to back up my data. or if i’m wrong let me know and maybe give me some pointers on the correct way to go about this.
and on a side note; where can i get external hard drive kits to turn a regular HD into a portable one?

MacBook hard drive crashed and I need to replace it with a new one to install the OS.
Would any laptop hard drive work?
The current HD was running at 5400RPM and I was thinking of replacing it with this one:

How do I install windows 98 over top of the old windows 98 on my laptop, to avoid reformatting the hard drive?

A tech support guy at aol told me that I need to reinstall windows 98 over top of my old windows 98 in order to correct a problem that I’m having with windows on my laptop. He said this way I won’t loose any of my saved files on my hard drive. He said, if I try and restore windows with the recovery CD that came with my computer, I’ll loose all the files on my hard drive. And I don’t want to loose any of my files by doing a reformatting of my hard drive. So, can anyone instruct me on how to do this, or direct me to a website that has instructions on how to do this?

Why is my laptop not finding my external hard drive?

I plugged it in via USB to transfer more data from the laptop. I believe the external drive has approx 120GB of data already. I’ve had it plugged in for 30 mins, yet it still does not show up in My Computer. Does it just take a long time to read all the data, or is something screwed up?

Running a game from an external hard drive ?

I installed WOW into my external hard drive and been playing the game from it without any problems, but recently I upgraded the game to the Burning Crusade and The Wrath of the Lich King, and unfortunately they were installed into my laptop’s internal drive. So, how do I downloaded the new patch/upgrade into the external hard drive? Do I have to uninstall the whole game and reinstall it?

No sound after replacing laptop hard drive?

Recently replaced a laptop hard drive, reinstalled Windows XP and afterward had no sound from speakers. Laptop, so it’s an onboard sound card. Device Manager recognizes sound card, but not audio devices. I’ve searched for drivers too. Does anyone know what could cause this?
