Operating System Software: Microsoft Windows XP Professional Edition with Service Pack 2 (soon to upgrade Windows Vista Home Premium Edition unless upgrade 2 GB ram)
Motherboard: Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
Processor: Opteron 185 2.6Ghz Dual Core Processor
Memory: Consair 1 GB RAM DRR PC3200
Hard Drives: 2x Maxtor 160GB SATA 8MB 7200Rpm
Video Card: XFX Geforce 8800 GTS 320MB *** (My LCD monitor supports up to 1280X1024, but I still prefer to use 1280X1024)

If I upgrade 2 GB ram to my gaming pc, then is it will faster? Do you think it will reach full potential? I don’t like any game runs lagging! Can it will run Crysis?

I have a Maxtor 500GB hard drive and it stopped working. My computer doesn’t recognize it n e more. HELP!

It may have been because i placed my computer plug into my hard drive on accident and possibly fried a wire? I called Maxtor and they are replacing the hard drive for free but they want to charge me almost $3000 for data recovery. Any comments on my situation are welcome. Thank You

Missing 2nd Hard Drive in Vista?

Got a 2nd computer today, nothing big as I will only be using it for more file storage (Acer MT300a) AMD 64/3600, gig of ram, 250 gig hd. Windows Vista Home Prem.
Here’s the problem:
System comes with a 250 Gb Hard Drive (SATA), 2 Partitions, and a DVD burner (IDE). system runs well boots fine. I wanted to move a drive from my first system (XP) to this one as a second drive on the IDE chain. The drive works fine on XP system 200Gig Maxtor and has about 190 Gig of data on it, Formated NTFS, Basic Volume. When I add it to the New Vista system, It shows up in the BIOS as well as in the Divice Manager, and under Disk Management. But it shows up as an EISA Configuration drive, normaly saved for system restore partitions. It shows Healthy and Online But will not allow for a drive letter. I have tried it as Master/Slave/ and Stand alone (Removing the DVD). Pull it back out, put it in the XP system, shows up with all data intact.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Will my external hard disk break down if I store too much data in it?

Will my external hard disk break down if I store too much data in it?
My external hard disk is almost full. However, I kept trying to store more data. Suddenly all the icons of my files in my external hard disk dissppeared. However, it showed that there is only 5MB left. But I can’t find any of my files. They are all missing. Then, I unplugged the external hard disk . Now my laptop can’t detect my external hard disk after I plugged the hard disk drive back into the laptop. My external hard disk has been making some ” sizzling sound ” and very hot .
However, my laptop can detect my friend’s external hard disk.

Question 1) As the title question
Question 2) I really wanna recover all my files. Should I take into the data recovery specialist? Or I reapair it my self ?
Question 3) I believe I haven’t dome anything wrong to my external hard disk. Why do I deserve this ? Can this be avoidable?

I ‘ve just bought my external hard disk for several months. It’s name is Maxtor OneTouch Mini4 ( 160GB)
Thanks

My pc will not recognize my maxtor external hard drive? HELP?

Is this a new drive?–NO.

2. When you say it doesn’t recognize it. Does it detect that it is plugged in, but it doesn’t show up in My computer? The pc will beep, indicating that a USB has been detected, it shows in the device manager that a mass storage device is attached but it does not show up in the ‘my computer’.

3. Does it show up in disk management? (Right click on My Computer | Click on Manage | Under Storage click on disk management. NO it does not…

computer wont start please help?

When I go to power on the computer nothing happens. Yesterday the power light would turn on and the fans would turn on for a few seconds then everything would go off again.
I took out the power supply and tried it in a computer that only has a cdrom (no HD) and it worked everything powered on…
Am I right in assuming that this may be the mother board? Any help would be most appreciated!

Here are my comp specs:
Pentium D 3.0 Ghz
Asus P5LD2 Deluxe
Maxtor 250 GB @ 7200rpm
Nvidia 256mb 7300 LE GeForce

Im not sure what the number of watts are for the power supply, but Im assuming it was enough as the computer was working fine before.

Thanks in advance.
I dont know if this will help but when I unplug the power cord and put it back in and press the power button the samething happens as yesterday again…the power led flickers and the fans turn on for a few moments after that everything shuts down…
I unplugged the cdroms and HD but still nothing..
Thanks to everyone who answered so far.

My Hard drive failed and I don’t have it backed up - HELP?

List of problems/actions:
- PC froze up after I heard “clicking noises,” had to shut down the system (hard).
- My desktop is and/or Windows won’t load in Safe Mode!
- We used a boot-up disk, tried to run chkdsk, process could not finish.
- Took out the drive and tried to copy it (using a slave external drive unit) onto my Maxtor external drive using my laptop.
- The laptop didn’t recognize the slaved drive, but I could hear the drive running.

So, it seems to be beyond that point - but I need/want to get my data! Now WHAT?

Notes from another answer “if it is beyond this point there are companies that in most cases recover the data but it is expensive.”

How expensive and what is able to be done?

Thanks so much for you help!!!
Jayne
Forgot to mention - I did the drive in the freezer trick, didn’t work!
liverpoolscousermarc…
I already opened the PC and used a jump drive to attempt to recognize the the data via my laptop and save my data on my external Maxtor drive.

To who ever asked - the drive that failed is from my Compac desktop: Seagate Model 8T380020A (80 GB).

I have already had the drive replaced and have started the desktop fresh.
