i have already 80gb hdd and looking to go for another 160gb?

how much RAM i need . currently running at 512+256 ddr2. how much is needed for good performence. how much is just enough. my motherboard is 945gccr intel. what is the max amount of RAM that can be installed on both slots.

What are the disadvantages of disabling SATA in XP?

Since I can’t find the SATA chipset driver for my motherboard (and therefore can’t download it) I can’t run XP Pro on my laptop since it has a SATA hard drive. The only way I can run it is to disable SATA. WHat are the advantages and disadvantages of running my computer this way?

Why wont my IDE Hard drive be recognized by my motherboard even though its running? The main drive being SATA.

I just built myself a new system and have a sata drive running xp, and an IDE for storage, but for some reason my MOtherboard is not picking up it having the IDE drive plugged into it, The IDE drive is spinning so I’m not sure whats the matter. Its a Gigabyte mobo so maybe I’m missing some important detail one way or another I’m not sure. Its a decent sized 150 gig western digital IDE drive, just hoping im not leaving out any information. I’m positive I dont need jumpers, so that rules that out.

If I remove the jumpers from my hard drive, will my motherboard automatically switch from 1.5gb/s to 3.0?

Thanks…I installed this hard drive recently and forgot that I left the jumpers in, so just want to know if I removed it if it will auto set it to 3.0 or I have to manually do it.

How to install a large hard drive. HELP?

i bought a Hitachi Deskstar 160gb harddrive. I succesfully installed it but i can only use it to 130gig. I went to bios and tryed to change the harddrive setting to the max but it will keep changing back to 130gig. i think its because the IDE on my motherboard don’t support such big harddrive. Is there a software you can download to make it support bigger harddrives? or the only solution is to get a new IDE card? Thx

Computer doesn’t make it to POST, but everything is running?

I’ve tried searching all the questions on here, but I recently had to replace my motherboard due to a failure, and I replaced it with an identical model. The PSU is brand new, and the Hard Drive has been tested on another computer and works fine, but I can’t get anything when I turn the computer on. All the fans, cooling system, and CD-ROM drive come on, but nothing ever displays on the screen. I’ve tried reseating the video card and RAM with no success. HOWEVER, ONE time I was able to get the BIOS screen to come up with my Windows Vista CD in the drive, but I didn’t have the keyboard plugged in to bring it to setup, and I haven’t been able to get it again. Help?

Installing a second hard drive?

I have an old compaq I am installing a second Sata hard drive on. My computer is only IDE compatible on the motherboard so I bought a adapter but when I have it set up right it won’t operate the system. If I can get the computer to work the second hard drive to register. Any help!

Why is Linux freezing?

Am running Fedora Core 5 (I’ve tried both 32 and 64 bit versions) on the following hardware:

AMD Athlon +3200 64 2.0 Ghz
1 GB DDR RAM
Biostar GeForce 6100 M9 Motherboard
160 GB Maxtor SATA Hard drive

After between 5 and ten minutes of use, it freezes. Keyboard and mouse are unresponsive with my only option to do a hard boot. Any insight you could provide would be appreciated.
