If you get a better bigger hard drive and you want to use the new one as your main drive what do you do?

when you put it in do you move your old one in to a “slave slot”?
If that is how you do that then will you need to reinstall your OS? How would you do that if their has never been one on the hard drive?

and once you get it up and running can you just reformat your old hard drive? Or do you need to do something else to get all of your old operating system off it (assuming that you have all your folders and documents that you need off it)? and this is all for windows vista

Can my Vista Hard Drive work with my XP Motherboard?

I have a Vista Hard drive that i want to put in my HP. But the problem is that the HP’s motherboard is xp. I was wondering if i put it in will it fit? And if it fits what will my operating system be.. Vista or XP? All help is appreciated.

partitioned my hard drive on vista.help?

when i click on format it formats the drive then restarts, then it doesnt load up the operating system, so have to turn off and on again…when loaded i check the hard drive and it says that the partition needs formatting - so just going round in circle.
it says the partition is ok and has given it letter E???help!

How do I wipe out my only hard drive?

I am running on Windows XP and have run into some problems with viruses. My friend suggested I wipe my hard drive. I have found software to do so (Active Kill Disk- http://www.killdisk.com/downloadfree.htm)

I have read over the manual and it suggested before using the software the following should be done:

Will I be able to use my Hard Disk Drive after Active@ KillDisk erase
operation?
To be able to use HDD again you need to:
• -Repartition the hard drive using a standard utility like FDISK.
• -Reformat partitions using a standard utility like FORMAT.
• -Reinstall the Operating System using a bootable CD-ROM.

How exactly do I do all that?

Do I perform those operations AFTER I use the Kill Disk software and then pop in my same Windows XP CD to re-install the OS?

have AVG virus-scan and spyware software and Zone Alarm. All are free…but i still have like 30 trojans on my computer…
because of these I can’t access my “Control Panel” or other options to get access to my “C” drive.
i don’t have the Windows XP disk and I can’t download it either to make a copy. The trojans have blocked me out of the ability to download files OR to do a system restore.

How to recover missing files?

I used partion magic to make a new partion to install another operating system. After all was said done I turned off the computer and left it for a few hrs. when I came back and restarted it the NEW OS started up but my origanal OZ was gone?? I have some files and family pictures on the other partion that I can’t loose (wife will kill me!) It’s a 300gb hd but only 10gb shows.It’s don’t even show up in the computer at all.Anyway can access them??

Right now I have an HP Pavilion a6130 with two internal hard drives, one with vista and the other with ubuntu. I want to put XP but I don’t really want to take away storage from one of the other OS’s. What can I do? I don’t believe I have an esata port on my computer but can I add that so I know it can speed it up.

Can someone help me out on figuring out how to reformat a hard drive?

I’ve been trying to fix this older gateway 500se of mine that I bought in 02, basically for company to use so they won’t have to bother my PC. I’ve got EVERYTHING WORKING..BUT when I try and boot up the hard drive it says there was a problem loading the operating system and then it wont go any farther. Black Screen. Also, the cdrom/cdburner isn’t working correctly. It has a copy of windows 98se in it, of mine, and will not open. I don’t feel like this is a wasted effort bc it was a great computer when I first got it. Then I had a power surge that destroyed the hard drive. It took gateway so long to replace it that I went and bought another PC. And ended up just putting this one in storage. Now I have dragged it out and found these problems.
IF anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

How much should I sell my Power Mac for?

I’m looking to sell my old Power Mac but I’m not sure how much I should charge. Here are the specs:
Power Mac G4
Operating System: Mac OS 9.1 & OSX
Memory: 128 MB
Processor: PowerPC G4 466 Mhz
CD Burner (CD-RW)
30 GB Hard Drive
In great condition.

I’m installing Windows 7 on a new hard drive for my laptop. how can I format this blank drive in NTFS? NO OS?

OK, so I just got a new hard drive for my laptop so I could install Microsoft’s Windows 7 Beta on it. Here is what I have done.
Put in CD for Windows 7.
Turn laptop off.
Take out my drive with vista on it.
Put in completely blank drive. (no operating system)
Turn on laptop.
The setup runs, but when it asks me what partition to put it to, (There is only one, since the drive is blank) I chose that one and it says that the drive needs to be in NTFS format not Primary. Can anyone help me with a free program that I can burn to format the drive? First answer that works gets the 10 points.
